27 Jul 2011

Mapletree Business City

Singapore – Mapletree Business City (“MBC”), a signature development by Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd (“Mapletree” or “the Group”), has been awarded the Green GOOD DESIGNTM Award 2011 under the Green Architecture category by The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. The integrated business hub spanning over 184,000 square metres in gross floor area is the largest building development, and office and business park in Singapore to be bestowed the prestigious award (please refer to Appendix below for past winners).

The Green GOOD DESIGNTM is an international award that recognises the efforts by lead industry players towards conserving the environment. Judges for the award include members of the European Center’s International Advisory Committee, who in turn are worldwide leaders in the design industry. For the 2011 award, hundreds of designs from around the world were evaluated, and of which 120 outstanding sustainable designs from 27 nations were conferred this year’s award.

Mr. Hiew Yoon Khong, Group Chief Executive Officer of Mapletree commented of the award, “The Green GOOD DESIGN is an endorsement of our efforts to benchmark Mapletree Business City as a world-class sustainable development. At Mapletree, we are committed to developing and applying best-in-class sustainable designs and practices to our developments as we believe in the long-term benefits to our internal and external stakeholders and the environment. Our efforts to incorporate ecologically sound technology and practices have further resonated with like-minded environmentally-conscious multinationals as well as local companies who have chosen to base their operations at MBC and tap on our in-built green infrastructure.”

Completed in April 2010, MBC is an integrated office and business park development that was specially conceived and designed to support, enhance and exceed the needs of modern businesses. Certified Green Mark Platinum by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore in 2009, MBC features energy-efficient infrastructure systems that could save a total of about 12 million KWH of energy and cut carbon emissions by some 6,300 metric tons annually, and it further incorporates water conservation measures which could reduce water consumption by approximately 94,000 m3. Apart from making its mark as an environmentally friendly development, MBC further boasts a user-friendly architecture and was earlier this year awarded the Universal Design Silver Award 2011 which recognises building owners and architects who create a seamlessly connected and friendly built surrounding that caters to the varying needs of people with different physical abilities.

To date, MBC has garnered several other international awards including CNBC Asia-Pacific Property Award in the Best Commercial Redevelopment (four stars) category (2009) and the ‘Highly Commended’ category for Best Urban Design and Master Planning Award by Cityscape Real Estate Asia (2009). With this latest award, MBC will be included in the esteemed list of winning 2011 Green GOOD DESIGN products and buildings to be showcased at an exhibition held in conjunction with a special conference on the environment organised by The European Centre and The Chicago Athenaeum in 2012.
